Intelligent intersections require accurate data and nothing does this better than SmartSensor Matrix. Using its one-of-a-kind radar vision, Matrix sees every vehicle at the intersection, moving or stopped, providing true presence detection as well as all the data you need for even the most complex intelligent traffic applications.
Unlike most traffic sensors, SmartSensor Matrix’s corner radar is versatile enough to perform accurately from a variety of mounting locations. Detection needs and intersection sizes can be evaluated to determine the mounting location best suited for a particular intersection. If the preferred mounting location is impossible there are two alternate mounting locations used for more flexibility in intersection planning. Because Matrix works with flexible mounting locations, it is a smart choice for intersections utilizing span wire.

Every traffic application requires good, solid data to operate. We created our SmartSensors to perform accurately and dependably and the end result is data you can depend on. While our sensors were built with specific applications in mind, traffic engineers from around the world create their own applications using our sensors and, frankly, we’re constantly blown away by their ingenuity and creativity. It’s amazing to see amazing innovations in every aspect of intelligent traffic using our sensors as the bedrock. To that end, we ensure our sensors are the easiest to work with and offer our expertise to anyone who can use it. The world is wide open. So, the question is: What will you create with our sensors?
SmartSensors see better than cameras in most difficult weather conditions and they keep working even when road conditions render loops useless. Radar’s electromagnetic wavelength is much larger than the wavelength of light, so radar can propagate through most snow conditions, rain, fog and even dust storms without becoming distorted. Once properly installed and configured, the sensors do not require cleaning, tuning, realignment or recalibration. In fact, SmartSensors continue to work even in temperature changes, humidity, and in other conditions that may compromise pavement integrity or affect available light.
SmartSensor Matrix is like no other traffic sensor. It is the first and only radar sensor able to see every vehicle at the stop bar, moving or stopped. It accomplishes this through a patented process we call Radar Vision. SmartSensor Matrix radar detection is used at the intersection and can detect up to 10 lanes of traffic. SmartSensor Matrix generates 16 separate radar beams in close proximity to create a 140-foot, 90-degree field of view. The resulting two-dimensional image is what we call radar vision and it is able to see all vehicles moving or stopped, including smaller vehicles like motorcycles and bicycles, at the approach. The sensor detects each vehicle within its field of view, remembers their positions and can predict future movements for greatly improved detection accuracies.

The configuration software for SmartSensor Matrix can almost run itself. It features auto-configuration and traffic visualization capabilities. User defined detection zones, created with an intuitive click-and-drag interface, can be as large as required to reduce passage time and intersection delays. Chances are you’ll be fully configured in as little as 15 minutes.

All SmartSensors install above the road eliminating the need for costly, intrusive installation. This cuts down on labor time, lane closures, trenching and specialized equipment. Most sensors can be installed with a couple of workers and a bucket truck in less than an hour if cable is already pulled. It's simple, it's safe and it's cost efficient.

Every moment a worker is on the road is dangerous. Intrusive detection methods require lane closures during installation and maintenance. Some non-intrusive detection methods require routine maintenance which, again, can require lane closures and workers spending time in danger. Wavetronix’ SmartSensors install on the side of the road and require no routine maintenance. This helps keep workers safe and out of the road. This technology can often be installed with just two workers and a bucket truck in around an hour. Configuring our sensors is intuitive and can be done off-site. This all adds up to your workers spending less time on the dangerous road.
