PROVO, UT—Wavetronix LLC, the Utah-based world leader of Digital Wave Radar traffic sensors, announced today that it is shipping evaluation kits of its much-anticipated SmartSensor Multilane traffic sensor to a number of strategic accounts. Wavetronix has had overwhelming demand for the product evaluation kits and has responded with several installations. "The demonstration kit allows the customer to receive instant feedback on the two most important factors when selecting a sensor, reliability and accuracy" said Dr. David Arnold, CEO of Wavetronix. Wavetronix volume shipments are currently available for the transportation industry market, making it possible for the first time for ITS operators to collect data using digital wave radar. "Response to the SmartSensor has been so positive that our current product supply will need to be reinforced. We are planning an additional production run this month to meet the product demand and job schedule forecasts." SmartSensor is capable of simultaneously reporting count, occupancy, classification, true presence and speed in eight lanes.
SmartSensor, which was officially unveiled in Philadelphia just eight weeks ago, is the only microwave traffic sensor that automatically configures up to eight lanes simultaneously. The product, which the user simply connects to any standard laptop for configuration, will find and assign lanes based on traffic patterns in front of the SmartSensor. Once the configuration process is confirmed, the configuration is saved to an embedded flash memory. Unique to the SmartSensor is also the 'true-speed' reporting, which provides accurate speed measurement by lane without user-defined input. This provides a true unbiased reporting of actual speed conditions by lane.
Dr. Arnold explains that many of Wavetronix strategic partners are those designing ITS improvements on upcoming projects, but who are also struggling with the safety and installation concerns of other applications. "SmartSensor makes it easy to install and configure, and establishing communication to the unit can be accomplished with or without wires. The number of installation sites that present communication challenges to retrieve the data is growing as the application of ITS innovation is adopted, so it's crucial that Wavetronix help our industry partners solve installation problems, making traffic monitoring easy and cost effective."
